Wormhole - Einstein Rosen Bridge, Why Travelling Through Wormhole Is Not Possible?
Einstein-Rosen Bridge or Wormhole is a special type of a structure in the space-time which connects two different points in the space-time. Actually it exist or not, is still not known but it shows consistency with Einstein field equation.
In 1935, great scientist Einstein and physicist Nathan Rosen used the theory of general relativity to elaborate the idea, dealing with the existence of 'special bridges' through space-time. These bridges connect two different points in space-time theoretically, by creating a shortcut that could reduce travel time and distance. American theoretical physicist John Archibald Wheeler named these bridges as Wormholes. Here a question arises, why we are so crazy about wormhole ?
So, travelling from one point to another point in the universe took much time and also have some limits. On the other hand, a wormhole took much shorter time to cover the same distance and can even connect two different universes or timelines. This is the reason why some people relate it to time-travel.
On a plane surface, the best way to join two points is to draw a straight line connecting them (most of us thought so) but there will be another possible shortest distance i.e., if we overlap the two points by folding the paper and making a hole at that point we would get a shortest distance. In the same way, a wormhole works.
Why it is not possible to travel using a wormhole?
You my have seen a wormhole in sci-fi movies. One such was shown in Interstellar. This was also shown in Avengers and other Marvel movies. People travel from one point to another point of the Universe using this wormholes. But, reality is far different. First is that none has been spoted yet. Other problems include size, stability and radiations. Predormial wormholes may have the size of 10-31 to 10-33 centimeters (if exists). If somehow, we may be able to overcome this problem then we would face the another problem i.e., the stability of the worm hole.
It is predicted through Einstein-Rosen's theory that wormholes would collapse too quickly and hence making it useless to travel through it. It is also predicted that exotic matter can be use to make it stable and it is also a theoretical matter.
So, if somehow we get both (a wormhole and exotic matter), we didn't have much advanced technology to increase the size of a wormhole. Some scientists claims that even if we found a wormhole of sufficient size then also it is nearly impossible to travel through it as it destroy both the wormhole as well as the traveller.
Anything other than exotic matter would lead to the collapse of the wormhole tunnel.
Is time-travel possible through wormhole ?
Time-travel, a topic everyone enjoy to talk about. It would be a very pleasant experience to travel in time and look past and future through it. Well, it may be possible with Wormholes as there as possibilities that they can connect different timelines also. But wait, this may be dangerous also. Firstly, if a person travel to his past or future then it will create a paradox. Secondly, if the wormhole collapse during this time then he/she would be unable to come back in his/her original timeline and may struck there forever! Also, it is possible only when we could spot a wormhole. It seems to be a dream for humans till now to travel through wormhole to reach unexplored space and time-travel but science is a tool that makes dream comes true.
Some definitions :
•Exotic matter : Exotic matter is any kind of non-baryonic matter—that is not made of baryons, the subatomic particles (such as protons and neutrons) of which ordinary matter is composed.
•Paradox : a situation or statement with two or more parts that seem strange or impossible together.
•Space-time : Spacetime is any mathematical model which fuses the three dimensions of space and the one dimension of time into a single four-dimensional manifold.
